St. Anthony's Senior Living

From Memory Care to Assisted Living: The Values that Drive our Day-to-Day Work at St. Anthony’s

For any business model to thrive, those running the business need to address two crucial aspects: the what and the how. In other words, business owners everywhere need to fully understand what they are offering their customers and how they are going to deliver it to them. At St. Anthony’s, we agree that those two components are indeed vital to any blossoming business. As for our what and how, to put it shortly, we offer one- and two-bedroom apartment homes in residential living, memory support, and assisted living—designed for residents who are 62 years of age and better. But any good business owner also knows there is an even more important item to address when building a business: the why.

Our why at St. Anthony’s is bound in something deeper than the what or how of our offering. St. Anthony’s modern community is perfect for those who wish to pursue an active, healthy and spiritual lifestyle. Within those three elements to a fulfilling lifestyle is where you can identify our why.

The “why” for any organization should be the reason any leadership team continues to develop the business. It should be the reason the staff keeps coming to work each day. It should be the reason any end consumer loves being a part of the business’ ecosystem. And it should be the driving force behind every decision made for the good of all involved. We’d like to break down our “Why” as outlined by those three lifestyle factors, through identifying key values that make St. Anthony’s a great place to live and be.

Active with Assisted Living

Our assisted living options at St. Anthony’s provides residents with an equal sense of autonomy and support. The mental and emotional health of our residents is of utmost importance, and we know an “active” lifestyle contributes to good health. So what kind of core values go into an active lifestyle?

  • Movement. This first one might be obvious, but our St. Anthony’s monthly calendar is FILLED with opportunities to help our residents get movin’ and groovin’. Movement leads to play, and play leads to laughter. We love seeing our residents smile daily!
  • Exploration. We have written extensively on the blog about the wonderful city we’re located in, and the quaint neighborhood of Brookside we inhabit. Exploring our city and surrounding areas is a way we promote being active—and we welcome all families of residents to join us in this mission!
  • Living Space. The last thing we want is our residents feeling cramped and cooped up on a regular basis. Our rooms and facilities at St. Anthony’s provide a homey environment while offering space to move and feel right at home.

Overall Health and Memory Care

We pride ourselves in offering one of Kansas City’s best memory care facilities. Part of our “Why” as it relates to the overall health of St. Anthony’s community members, ensures no resident feels alone, unseen, or not taken care of—the way we combat any resident feeling that way are the values that guide our health values.

  • Professionalism. Not only is our leadership team and staff made up of retirement community and memory care professionals, but humans who care for the souls and dignity of everyone at St. Anthony’s. Because that’s the case, we carry ourselves with professionalism and excellence in everything we do.
  • Development. Now, are we perfect? No! Any business and staff that claims to be should come as a red flag to anyone interacting with such an offering. But what we do strive for is professional development throughout the year—whether that’s furthering our education or expanding our knowledge (attending conferences, etc.) so that we might serve the St. Anthony’s community well.
  • Transparency. We know how important it is for families to be informed of the ongoings at any retirement community or memory care facility. Therefore, our staff is always on call to answer any questions you might have about weekly events or resident check-ins.

A Higher Spiritual Calling

The last driver of our “why” is a daily and higher spiritual calling from God. Now, we don’t mean a “better” calling than every other retirement community (as many of them are aware of the Lord’s work at hand) but St. Anthony’s truly acknowledges that the men and women here are sons and daughters of God. And since that’s the case, here is how we lead accordingly…

  • Dignity. Again, we believe every person that steps inside St. Anthony’s is a beautiful soul worthy of the utmost care, attention, and respect. Therefore, we show our residents that high level of dignity on a daily basis. In turn, what’s created is something that is so important for any retirement community or memory care facility . . .
  • Trust. The result of treating one another with dignity is an earned trust that we don’t take lightly. The reason we think building trust with residents and their families is important is because we’ve been entrusted with the responsibility and good work we get to do each day.
  • Joy. We say “work we GET to do each day” and mean it! Sometimes, life and attaining good health is serious business. But we never want serious business to get in the way of leading a fun and joyful life! Part of the St. Anthony’s community is not taking ourselves so seriously—we laugh and dance and eat and drink with each other. In turn, this place often feels like a fun party filled with the best people we know!

And where there is a community of like-minded people enjoying the good gifts God has given, why would we want to be anywhere else? It’s a vision fueled by our way that ends with the only result anyone could hope for in a business setting: flourishing human relationships that are better because of the work we’ve been called to steward. That is part of our “Why” and that is what St. Anthony’s strives for each day.
