St. Anthony's Senior Living

Fun Activities for Our Senior Living Residents

At St. Anthony’s, we love offering unique and entertaining experiences for our residents to socialize and get active in their community! It’s all about the quality of life, and how our residents spend their days matters. We are here to enrich the lives of those who pioneered our past, and with our extensive activities calendar, our residents always have fun themes and games to look forward to!

Wondering what kind of events you or your loved one can expect as a St. Anthony’s resident? Here’s a snapshot of some of our favorite activities on the Life Enrichment calendar.

Senior Activities in Independent Living

Our independent living residents often lead active and busy lives off-campus, but we want them to feel right at home engaging with their fellow residents here too! Our Independent Living Events Calendar offers everything from fitness activities to entertainment and social opportunities. Residents are welcome to attend any events that spark their interest. Here are some favorites.

Sit N’ Be Fit

Independent Living residents can enjoy a low-impact group workout three days a week at our fully-equipped St. Thomas Moore Wellness Center. Accessibility matters to us, and Sit N’ Be Fit is a great space for getting your essential physical activity in a supportive environment and enjoying group fitness fun.

Afternoon Board Games

After lunch, St. Anthony’s residents love to break out our board game collection for an afternoon of friendly competition! With a different game each day — Gin Rummy, Kings in the Corner, Scrabble, and many more — every resident can look forward to their favorite classic game while getting to know neighbors.

Daily Mass

As a faith-based senior living community sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph, we provide Mass in our on-campus chapel every afternoon to support the spiritual health of our residents. We welcome people of all faiths to enjoy life at St. Anthony’s, and we believe it is our responsibility to love and care for every resident who comes through our doors. Spirituality is encouraged and welcomed, and nondenominational services are also available too.

Happy Hour

Following Mass, each day is Happy Hour in our St. Peter’s Pub! This is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a cocktail with good company. In addition, we often have special concerts from local artists, or sports fans can enjoy cheering on the Royals and Chiefs together!

Clubs

Some of the best connection happens through the clubs our residents put together, like the Cooking Club and Bridge Group! There’s always something new to enjoy.

Senior Activities in Assisted Living

We know that mental and emotional wellness is just as essential as having physical needs tended to in Assisted Living, which is why activities are such a big part of life at St. Anthony’s! With fitness classes, community meal times, salon services, and arts and crafts activities, there’s something for everyone to enjoy on our campus.

Pretty Nails + Spa Day

Who doesn’t enjoy a little pampering? Our Pretty Nails + Spa Days are among the most well-attended events at St. Anthony’s, as residents love enjoying some pampering and freshly-painted nails.

Daily Games

Each day, we have multiple games scheduled for assisted living residents to enjoy. Sometimes it’s Monopoly or crazy eights, other times we get a bit more active with darts or a cornhole tournament. For residents who enjoy video games, we even break out the Wii every once in a while!

Exercise

Group fitness is essential for our assisted living residents, as we gather at 2:30 pm for some exercise! All of our exercise options are created with residents’ needs and abilities in mind, so there’s a class or fitness activity to suit every need and workout preference.

Saturday Movie Night with the Care Staff

After such a jam-packed week, there’s nothing better than relaxing and spending time bonding with the care staff over a good movie and a bowl of popcorn!

Senior Activities in Memory Care

Because of their unique care needs, Memory Support residents have a more consistent, structured schedule to support their comfort and memory retention. Of course, regimented schedules don’t always work for those experiencing dementia, so our team prioritized autonomy through routine with a loose enough structure to meet varying needs.

Not many senior living facilities take the time to create special activities designed for memory care residents, but it’s important for us to go above and beyond in caring for EVERYONE here at St. Anthony’s.

Focused mind boxes are boxes are created specifically for each resident’s cognitive abilities. Our speech therapist here at St. Anthony’s assesses each of our Memory Care residents and sets them up with activities according to both their cognitive level and favorites.

For many Memory Support residents, familiar tasks can be truly comforting and helpful. So we have a few stations for residents to help fold socks and towels, “clean,” and other tasks. Activities that resonate with residents’ pre-dementia life can help bring them joy.

In addition to personalized experiences and activities, those in our Memory Support community also enjoy structured activities as they are able.

Mondays: Chair Exercise + Music Therapy

Memory Care residents love kicking off their week with some physical fitness followed by music with Stacy. In fact, chair exercise occurs six days a week since we know physical activity is beneficial for memory retention!

Tuesdays: Crafts + Bible Study Social

The focus of Tuesdays in Memory Care is social and spiritual wellness. We start off with a fun craft or art activity, then later we gather for a group Bible study followed by a snack and social hour with fellow residents.

Wednesday: Games, Spa + Entertainment

This is our favorite day of the week, as every activity is just as fun-filled as the last! We start off with a familiar board or card game, followed by exercising and attending Mass. After that, it’s nice to relax with manicures and an aromatherapy spa. We even conclude the day with special entertainment from talented guests!

Thursday: Rosary + Variety

With a focus on memory retention to keep things fresh and fun, Thursdays in Memory Care offer variety through singing, memory games, and the occasional social outing to enjoy some time off campus. And of course, we always start the day by saying the Rosary together.

Friday: Relax

It’s time for a peaceful, easy day. Residents can enjoy some time in the courtyard or gardens on a nice day, then enjoy stretching during our afternoon chair exercise.
