If you or a loved one are looking for senior living in Kansas City, here’s our guide to determining if St. Anthony’s is right for you. Let’s dive in.

How to Decide if St. Anthony’s Senior Living is Right for You

You know it’s time to consider a lifestyle change for yourself or your aging loved one. But how do you figure out where to begin? You’ve likely started to research various senior living options and maybe even begun to consider St. Anthony’s as a possibility. Here’s what you can do to make an informed decision and learn as much as you can about what life is like here at St. Anthony’s!

1. Determine the Level of Care Need

Before you can settle on a specific senior living community, you need to understand the care needs involved for the older adult in question. At St. Anthony’s, we have three senior living options:

Independent Living

Independent Living is ideal for the older adult who requires little to no additional care support but could benefit from lightening the load of managing a household. Independent living residents enjoy the freedom of continuing their already active lifestyle with the bonus of a downsized apartment requiring less care, on-site dining with highly nutritious meals, plenty of amenities and activities to fill their days, and the optional extra support of housekeeping and laundry services.

Assisted Living

Assisted Living is perfect for seniors who struggle with one or more activities of daily living (ADLs) and require some support managing their day-to-day care. At St. Anthony’s, assisted living residents are assessed by professional caregivers to determine the level of care needed, allowing for as much autonomy as possible while giving residents the support they require, from mobility assistance to bathing and incontinence care.

Memory Care

Memory Care provides a safe and loving environment for residents living with memory loss illnesses such as Alzheimer’s or dementia. With a highly-trained team that specializes in compassionate care, loving support, and incredible attention to detail, memory care residents are treated with the utmost dignity and respect for the amazing lives they have lived and will continue to live as part of the St. Anthony’s family!

2. Get to Know Us

Once you have an idea of what level of care you or your loved one will need, take some time to peruse our website and learn more about what life is really like at St. Anthony’s. Experience a day in the life of a St. Anthony’s resident, take a look at all the luxurious amenities we have to offer, understand what it means for us to be a faith-based senior living community, and get a taste of how residents spend their days through our activities calendars!

While nothing can compare to experiencing the real thing, taking some time to familiarize yourself with the culture at St. Anthony’s will make it even easier to decide if you want to take the next step and come for a visit.

3. Schedule a Tour

Now that you’ve started getting to know us, come on in for a visit so we can start getting to know you! Taking a tour of our campus will allow you to see our facilities first-hand as we show you around the visitation gardens, introduce you to a few residents and care staff, take you through the St. Thomas More Wellness Center, and even show you an example of what your future apartment will look like!

The tour is also your chance to ask any questions you may have in person, whether it be about the move-in process or life at St. Anthony’s each day.

What to Do After You Choose St. Anthony’s

1. Submit Your Application

When you’re ready to take official steps toward joining the St. Anthony’s community, talk to us about the logistics of making it happen! We will walk you through submitting your application, setting up rent payments, and planning the date for your move-in. Availability of different apartments will vary, so don’t wait once you know St. Anthony’s is the place for you!

2. Start Downsizing

Now that it’s official, you’ll need to start personal preparations for moving in. Your senior living apartment is likely smaller than your current living situation, meaning it’s time to start the downsizing process. We have a guide to help you decide what to downsize — including information about what furnishings will be provided for you — and are available to answer any questions!

3. Prepare Financial and Legal Documents

Even if you’re moving to independent living, we recommend getting your financial and legal ducks in a row before the move. It may be helpful to set up a power of attorney with a trusted family member or friend who can help manage your finances and legal matters in the event you are no longer able to. You’ll also want to prepare your finances so you don’t have to worry about the all-inclusive rent being covered monthly!

4. Prepare for Moving Day

There’s a lot to do as you prepare to move into your new senior living apartment, and we want to ensure nothing gets forgotten or left to the last minute! Our senior living moving checklist can help you cover all your bases and ease the strain of figuring out what needs to be accomplished pre-move. Don’t forget to ask for help. This isn’t something you should worry about handling alone, and your loved ones will feel honored to help you prepare.
